I am hard of hearing and a parent of 3 children with Autism. I have been teaching Auslan in schools for 5 years and teaching my children as well. This helps them to communicate when the world overwhelms them.

As an Auslan teacher, I was having difficulty finding resources to engage the children in their learning. I was communicating with my friend and we suddenly realised that we could make them ourselves. And so the ideas for Rainbow Hands started to grow.

The name Rainbow Hands was suggested by my youngest son. He said rainbows make him happy and using our hands to communicate makes him happy too.
